Userful Customers Report Cost and Time Savings with Linux-Based Software
CALGARY, AB ( February 25, 2005) - Userful, leaders in public computing solutions, announces customer survey results which highlight the substantial cost and time savings offered by DiscoverStation. Library Directors and IT staff reported an average Total Cost of Ownership savings of fifty percent over traditional public computing systems. Customers reported that much of these dramatic savings were gained by reducing the time IT staff spends managing the public computers.
Vera Curry, Head of Automated Services at Finkelstein Memorial Library, said, "DiscoverStation reduces the workload for our IT staff by seventy to eighty percent. Having a system that is managed by someone else is great. All you have to do is connect it to the system and it works."
When comparing the cost of DiscoverStation to the cost of other systems performing similar functions, libraries reported an average savings of fifty four percent. Libraries found that DiscoverStation freed resources on almost every front: IT support, budget and staff stress levels. Libraries reported these savings while also reporting significant improvements in service: better up-time, more applications, improved ease of use for patrons. Userful's comprehensive support package was also lauded. One hundred percent of respondents found Userful's response time, knowledge and the clarity of communication to be good or excellent.
Tim Griffin, President of Userful explains how the company has produced such dramatic savings for its customers. "We turn one computer into ten meaning libraries need to spend far less on computer hardware. On top of that we provide a 100% managed and supported solution which frees library staff. In this survey customers are telling us something we've long known - day after day, our solutions are making librarians' lives easier and saving them time and headaches."
Ellen Robins, Director of Takoma Park Library, states, "We love it; by and large, DiscoverStation is a very simple and elegant system. The response [from Userful] in terms of service has been excellent, we have even had [Userful staff] respond on a Sunday in minutes."
