Call Centers Cut Computing Costs With 10-to-1 Solution

CALGARY, AB (March 23, 2005) - Userful, an innovative desktop Linux company, introduces Desktop Multiplier, a software product that turns one computer into ten.  Using extra video cards in an ordinary computer box this software gives call centers a ten-to-one advantage on their desktop computers using familiar and flexible PC hardware.  Userful's approach eliminates complexity, making deploying or expanding call centers as simple as plugging in ten ordinary monitors and keyboards into the single central computer box.

Userful is part of a broader industry trend towards desktop consolidation. Tim Griffin, President of Userful, states, "Many call centers are investigating blade PCs or thin-clients as a means of reducing TCO.  Userful offers better performance at a fraction of the complexity and cost. Its built on an open platform using affordable and familiar standard PC hardware and the powerful Linux Desktop. Users can run a mix of local and remote server based applications. This ensures that contact centers get high performance when it is needed and centralized data security for those applications which require it. With Userful you don't need to sacrifice performance or wed yourself to a proprietary infrastructure to take advantage of desktop consolidation."

By consolidating hardware, software, and maintenance costs by as much as ten to one, Userful's Desktop Multiplier creates dramatic total cost of ownership (TCO) savings.  Other benefits include the flexibility to quickly grow and scale existing networks and the dependability of the robust, virus-immune Linux platform.  Desktop Multiplier also improves the work environment with ninety percent fewer computer boxes, and associated heat and noise  The ninety per cent reduction in hardware greatly reduces an organization's power, air conditioning and computer disposal costs.

Large enterprises such as hospitals, banks, or insurance companies can easily have 10,000 desktop PCs.  These PCs are however are being used at a fraction of their capacity. Userful can reduce by ninety percent the number of computer boxes required and typically has a similar impact on TCO. In a recent survey Userful customers reported an average TCO reduction of fifty percent.
