Userful Announces the Release of DiscoverStation 4.0
Calgary, AB (December 22) - Calgary-based Userful Corporation announces the release of DiscoverStation 4.0, its industry-leading public computing solution. DiscoverStation 4.0 builds on Userful's extensive expertise in reducing costs and improving services for institutions offering computer access to the public.
DiscoverStation allows up to ten people to work from a single high performance PC. Layered on top of this is a completely secure and maintenance-free, but robust desktop environment designed from the ground up specifically to meet the needs of those mandated to provide public computing. Backed by Userful's powerful remote support tools, DiscoverStation consistently generates IT time savings up to 80% and average TCO savings of 54% according to library and education customers across North America.
"Libraries, schools, universities and other public venues around the world are searching for a better way to do public computing," says Tim Griffin, President of Userful. "Traditional approaches are time-consuming, expensive and all too often lead to less than satisfactory results. DiscoverStation has a strong track record of lowering libraries' costs and saving staff time while improving patron services. We're excited about this new DiscoverStation version because it ensures that users around the world have access to reliable public computers, which is increasingly important in this information age."
Userful's new DiscoverStation 4.0 includes dozens of new and improved features requested by both users and operators of public computers. A key new feature is the suite of internationalization tools available to administrators who wish to offer public computing desktops in a variety of languages. From a single web portal, administrators can install and offer international program translations and keyboard layouts to any combination of DiscoverStation systems.
The complete DiscoverStation solution is virtually virus-immune, tamper-proof, and is more secure, stable, with higher performance than traditional thin clients and PC networks. The locked-down environment of DiscoverStation blocks unwanted content access, downloads, and system changes, and enables libraries and others to provide Internet filtering to their patrons. In addition to making the offering of public computers drastically more affordable, using DiscoverStation produces substantial environmental benefits. The 90 per cent reduction in hardware greatly reduces the power, air conditioning and computer disposal costs.
DiscoverStation 4.0 upgrades are being distributed free to current Userful customers in December.
